It’s True, Trump Treated the HBCUs Way Better
I went in with an open mind. I knew Biden had authorized $7 billion (down from a promised $47 billion right before the 2020 election). Half that $7 billion was Covid relief. And it was more than Trump ever gave them, but what Trump did was he answered the letters the college presidents wrote him right when he was entering the White House, and he answered. He moved the HBCU initiative from the Department of Education back to the White House, where it had begun under President Reagan, and this was exactly what they asked him to do. He also got the then-president of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Johnny Taylor, Jr., to run it. In other words, he wasn’t pandering, he was RESPONSIVE.
Bottom line, one year after being installed, Biden still hadn’t appointed the head of the White House HBCU Initiative.
