Tripping on Travel: Bigelow Hollow State Park, pt 1, Union, CT

I had planned to visit Bigelow Hollow State Park. But as May approached, I was reminded that it may be best I make that visit before Memorial Day when summer fans of the park begin to arrive. This is a very popular state park that features three ponds, which is specified by a map on the ExploreCT website. I first arrived just offshore Bigelow Pond, where I took the footage seen in part one. This park will likely remain one of the favorite experiences I've had since I started doing this series. The conflict between the rocky ground and tree roots is a common theme here. In a later episode of this visit, viewers can see clearly see that it's the rocks that win that battle. Even in that example, it was interesting that the trees on top of one giant rock grew as tall as they did before the roots' grip on that rock gave way and the trees fell. Still, it's a beautiful environment, regardless of the trees that may fall.

It's not unusual for this park to have to close down entrance into the park for a summer day because parking capacity has reached its limit. So, controls are necessary. Out-of-state visitors will pay a parking fee. According to the CTParks website, out-of-state visitors are required to pay a $10 fee to park on weekdays, and $15 on weekends and holidays. All visitors are required to take their trash with them when they leave.
