Fat Dachshunds Use Merry-Go-Round To Get Some Exercise

Sometimes your pet needs exercise, perhaps because they ate too much or weren’t active enough. It’s unfortunate but it happens. The correct thing to do is fix it. Even if you have to use alternative methods.

Putting two little Dachshund dogs on a merry-go-round seems like a bad idea…

If you do have an overweight pooch we looked up a few ways to help them shed the pounds. Some of them are obvious but it never hurts to be reminded. You can calculate how many calories your dog needs which can be quite different from dog food bag recommendations. You might want to check with your vet beforehand. You should also actively measure meals, don’t guesstimate. I use a measuring cup for my dogs. It’s also recommended that you feed them on scheduled times, so dinner and breakfast, but take away the food once mealtime is over. It’s better than leaving the “all-day buffet” for them to snack on.

But I have to admit, if you’re going to get your dogs healthy THIS is not a bad way to do it!

It turns out that dogs need at least 20 to 30 minutes of brisk walking which can boost immune function, cardiovascular health and reduce behavioral problems. Plus, it’s helpful and healthful for you as well. For smaller dogs you might be safe with 20 minutes due to their size. One vet we read also recommends that you seek out low- or no-grain foods to reduce your pet’s carbohydrate intake. As with most things in life, changing your diet and exercising more is always the way to get healthier and lose weight. We hope these pups managed to get slim, svelte and healthy.
