We are thrilled to announce that the Government of Liberia, in partnership with global health organizations, will officially launch the anti-malaria vaccine for children ages 5 to 18 months in Cestos City, Rivercess County, tomorrow, Thursday, April 25, 2024.
👩‍⚕️ Liberia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Louise Kpoto, will administer the first vial of the malaria vaccine, marking a significant milestone in our country's efforts to combat malaria and protect our children's health. With 88,780 vials already available and more on the way, we are taking a giant leap forward in addressing the burden of malaria.
🌍 This initiative is part of the World Health Organization's Malaria Vaccine Implementation Program, aiming to reduce malaria-related illnesses and fatalities across Africa. Liberia is one of 12 African countries benefiting from this program, focusing on areas with high malaria prevalence, especially among children.
🏥 The Ministry of Health is committed to prioritizing the rollout of the vaccine in six southeastern counties, targeting children aged 5 to 18 months in 39 districts. The vaccine will be available at all health facilities across Rivercess, Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, River Gee, and Mayland.
This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the support of our partners, including GAVI, WHO, and UNICEF. Together, we are making strides in improving public health and creating a malaria-free future for Liberia.
Join us in celebrating this momentous occasion and spreading the word about the importance of malaria prevention. Together, we can #DefeatMalaria and ensure a healthier tomorrow for our children!
