Black Bear Moves Into Bird Feeder House In Man's Backyard

Most people put bird feeders in their yards to attract the colorful and lively local avians that live in their area. However, bird feeders tend to attract other less flight-based characters including squirrels, chipmunks, the occasional deer and bears.

Black bears like to steal food from bird and squirrel feeders in many backyards…

There are many reasons why bears like bird feeders. Beyond being an easy source of calories and food, it turns out that many bird seed mixes are high in protein and fat. It makes for a more appealing source of food than foraging. It also means that bears that find one bird feeder will search for more at other homes. So, it is a bit of safety issue. One government agency site we looked at suggested that people put away bird feeders from April through November. If you don’t want to do that, we have read that adding cayenne pepper to the seed is one way to deter bears. By the way, intentionally feeding bears is illegal and can lead to serious problems for the bears and for humans that might encounter them.

However, this black bear isn’t just stealing food, he’s evicting the tenants! Some bird must not have paid the rent on time!

The bear in this backyard basically moves into the bird feeder. Admittedly, the bear is on the smaller on the end, but this is also a huge bird feeder. You could probably fit a bird and their entire extended family in there with room to spare. We mean, the bear even has extra space when he is in the feeder. It’s an insanely large feeder. Next thing you know he’ll be throwing bear parties!
