Congo Rainforest

The Congo Rainforest, also known as the Congo Basin, is the second-largest tropical rainforest in the world, after the Amazon. It covers around 500 million acres across several countries in Central Africa, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon. The Congo Rainforest is incredibly biodiverse, home to a vast array of plant and animal species, including endangered species like gorillas, chimpanzees, and forest elephants. It also plays a crucial role in regulating the Earth's climate and carbon cycle. However, like other rainforests, it faces threats from deforestation, logging, mining, and agriculture, which put its biodiversity and ecological functions at risk. Efforts are underway to conserve and sustainably manage this important ecosystem.
