Neom City - The Line - The Rise and Fall of Saudi Arabia's Linear City

Saudi Arabia's ambitious project to construct a 170-kilometer-long, 500-meter-tall mirrored city in the desert, intended to accommodate 9 million people, has faced significant cutbacks. Originally envisioned as a grand endeavour named "The Line," the project has been scaled back drastically, with plans now reduced to a mere 2.4 kilometres in length.

According to Bloomberg reports, the Saudi government has reevaluated its medium-term goals for Neom, of which "The Line" was a prominent component. Initially slated to house 9 million residents by 2030, the revised plans now aim for fewer than 300,000 inhabitants, marking a substantial reduction in scope.

The decision to curtail these ambitious plans coincides with delays in approving the 2024 budget for Neom by the Saudi government, as indicated by sources cited in the Bloomberg report.
