"You (Ukraine) won't enter EU& NATO with Bandera"

There's a controversial historical figure whom many Ukrainians uphold as “our father"-- the icon of Ukrainian nationalist movement Stepan Bandera.

Regrettably, his life and track record show how much damage a cult built upon a false idol who’s not exactly worthy of the title “hero” can inflict on his contemporaries and future generations of his supposedly beloved nation.

Yet, those following in his footsteps today remain oblivious as their country descends into the abyss.

As for us who have got bogged down in the deadly business of supporting Ukraine for “as long as it takes” against our will, it’s about time we ask whether supporting the people who insist on beating their heads against the wall as they insist worshipping the bad role model, is in our best interest.

Historians say it's pointless discussing "what ifs" in history. But had we known better about this individual and made clear that we would neither condone nor support the idolization of him as the symbol of resistance before 2022, we might have averted the ongoing carnage there.
