Plants vs Zombies 2 - Zomboss - Seedium Showcase - Ultomato - April 2024
Ultomato - was offered between April 21, 2024 through April 28, 2024.
Ultomato is a member of the Fila-Mint family.
Ultomato costs 250 Sun. (-25 Sun at levels 2, 5, 8 and 10).
Ultomato can be planted on itself up to three (3) times.
Ultomato's cost increases based on the number of Ultomatos previously planted.
In its small state, Ultomato does 350 damage. (+25 damage per level).
In its medium state, Ultomato does 750 damage. (+50 damage per level).
In its large state, Ultomato does 1,600 damage. (+100 damage per level).
When given plant food, Ultomato explodes dealing 1,800 damage to all zombies in a 9*7 area - basically the entire lawn.
Commentary:
Ultomato's damage is classified as “pass-through” damage. What this means is that not one damage is “wasted”. Contrast this with Citron. This plant does a lot of damage but dealing lots of damage to an almost defeated zombie feels like a waste. Ultomato's damaging beam will continue onto the next zombie once a zombie is defeated.
Bottom Line:
We want to love Ultomato. We really want to play with this plant as it is interesting. Sadly though, this plants costs a lot of Sun. With this allotment of Sun, we expect big damage. We just find that this is not the case. We've seen stage 3 Ultomatos, which deal 2,000 damage per beam, barely scratch a buckethead zombie.
If that happens on one lane, imagine the Sun costs for the others. Imagine how even a few zombies are going to cause chaos if a single zombie can render a plant ineffective.
We love Ultomato but find ourselves using Bloomerang or Laser Bean instead. Both are much cheaper and minimize that “wasted damage” effect.
