Celebrating and Exploring the finished work of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The Waking up to Grace Podcast.

If we are already in the Spirit and the Spirit is in us, what is walking in the Spirit? If we are to follow the example of Jesus we would need to be fully dependent on the Father. The full dependency on God the Father is how Jesus fulfilled his work in his body of flesh. Jesus was also born spiritually alive, His physical birth was by divine intervention.

Jesus describes himself as the vine and us as the branches. He produces the fruit and we bear it freely. Most of today's views from a "grace perspective" promote something along the lines of us waking up in the morning and having to choose whether we will walk in the Spirit or walk in the flesh. Is this a Spiritual view or does it actually teach us how NOT to walk in the Spirit? Let's take a closer look at what scripture has to say about this topic.

Galatians (5:16-26) NIV

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Galatians (3:1-3) NIV

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?
