Rumble Fish is about two brothers, one called Rusty James and the other Motorcycle Boy. In the nameless town where Rusty James still lives, his brother is considered a born leader, a mythical figure, a heroic veteran of the gang wars.But storytelling is not Coppola's main concern. From the opening scenes, in which a sky full of racing clouds contrasts with graffiti over Motorcycle Boy, the movie is a mishmash of completely overwrought images. There are red and blue fish (the only splashes of color in this film), clocks everywhere, beautifully balletic fight scenes, pulsating music (by Stewart Copeland of The Police).
