Very Large Array Open House 4-20-2024

I drove down to the Very Large Array in Magdalena, NM this a.m. (and back home in the afternoon) for the VLA's open house. I took a guided tour and learned a lot about the telescopes. They were built in the 1970s but have been upgraded/renovated more recently. "Contact" was filmed there in 1997 and Jodie Foster narrates an informational film you can see at the visitor's center. I not only wore alien earrings, but also wore a moldavite pendant to try and call in my ET buddies. ;-) It was a great day, but the drive was long (a little less than 3 hours each way from Santa Fe). I'm pooped! On the way home, I stopped to take pictures of a CUTE little diner in Magdalena called "Tumbleweeds". It seemed to be THE place to hang out in that little town. I was impressed that they offered a vegan burger! Anyway, if you want to see the truckloads of pictures I took (besides this video), please go to my blog. The telescopes are MASSIVE. I knew they'd be big, but didn't think they'd be THAT big.
