Roman coffin unearthed at Garforth to be displayed for the first time

A Roman lead coffin, containing the remains of a high-status woman and a child, was unearthed in West Yorkshire in 2022.

The coffin, buried for over 1,600 years near Leeds, will be publicly displayed for the first time at Leeds City Museum starting May 3rd.

The discovery, made by West Yorkshire Archaeological Services, sheds light on early Leeds history and Roman burial practices, the BBC has reported.
