To kids and teens living with alopecia hair loss.
Dear CAP Kid/Teen,
I want you to know that you are amazing, just the way you are. Alopecia is just a part of who you are, and it doesn't define you. You are unique and special in your own way, and that's something to be proud of.
Are you different? Yes, everyone is. Is that a bad thing? No, being different is just about the most normal thing there is.
I understand that dealing with hair loss at any age can be tough, but I want you to know that you are not alone. Many others are going through the same thing, and they, too, are pretty amazing.
I want you to take a moment to look in the mirror. Look at yourself and see the beauty in your reflection and that lies within. Your smile, your eyes, your skin, your personality – all these things are what make you unique, original and you, your hair has nothing to do with that.
Don't let the hair loss take away from who you are as a person. Instead, embrace your hair loss and wear it with confidence. There are many ways to live with it and you can style your bald head or what’s left of the hair on your head.
If you want to, but make sure you don’t feel like you have to, wear a wig, a scarf, a hat, or a CAP. Wear them all the time or sometimes or just embrace your baldness and show it off to the world! Whatever you choose to do, do it with confidence and know that you are beautiful and perfect just the way you are.
Remember, it's not about the hair on your head but the brain inside your head, the heart in your chest and the soul you were born with that makes you strong, resilient, and capable of achieving anything you set your sights on.
Don't let hair loss hold you back from pursuing your dreams and living the life you want to live. You can do anything!
If anyone has a problem with your Alopecia, that’s their problem, not yours so just move on, the world and the people on it will adjust.
Register for our next two camps now! First up, Friday May 3 to Sunday, May 5 CapKidCampWisconsin.org and then from Friday, May 10 to Sunday, May 12 for CapKidCampFlorida.org and celebrate Mother’s Day and the birthday of Jeff Woytovich, away from home.
