The Philippines is an archipelago of approx. 7,641 islands and islets scattered across the western Pacific Ocean, approximately 500 miles (800 kilo) off the coast of Vietnam.
The two largest islands are Luzon and Mindanao, which together make up about two-thirds of the total land area.
The capital city is Manila, although nearby Quezon City is the country’s most populous city.
