It Seems That Crocodiles Have Become Very Dexterous With Their Footwork

If someone wanted to show off as a smart mouth and says “can crocodiles climb” as an answer to a question that obviously has a negative answer, just show them this video. No more sass-mouthing from them!

A group of people hoping for a calm day out fishing in Roper River, Northern Territory, Australia, when they spotted one big fella giving his best shot at scaling the nearby waterfall. Cue all the nightmarish thoughts about Godzilla and impending doom!

"Some friends, their kids and myself were boating along the Roper River in Northern Territory looking for runoffs to have a fish. We noticed a crocodile waiting for a feed at the bottom of the waterfall. As we got closer, it decided to try and climb up which is very rarely seen so I thought I’d start filming. We were amazed at its strength. I was surprised when he started climbing rather than swimming away from us,” says the owner of this video.

The old fella went full on four-wheel-drive on the slippery slope and was actually pretty close to reaching the top, but he missed his footing and just gave up!

After a frantic Google search for other similar reports, it turns out that crocs have been able to do this activity since very long ago. A study from Vladimir Dinets, Adam Britton and Matthew Shirley details anecdotes stating that juvenile crocodilians could hang out in trees a good 32 feet above the ground, climb up riverbanks like this dude, even scale up 6-foot-tall chain link fences.
