The First Horsemen of the Apocalypse Explained

Does the mainstream interpretation of the four horsemen of the apocalypse not lend it self to correction from time to time ? Certainly the doctrines of the apocalypse invoke layers of meaning. The ideas involved can be considered in broader applications without departing from fundamental Christian doctrine. Paul said in the scripture that Christ is the foundation. Yet how we understand revelation and its challenging imagery can broach new ground as the days grow ever near. And the Day of the Lord is, even now, at the very door. What new ways can we understand the four horsemen of the apocalypse while remaining true to the foundation which is Christ.
