The Senate swiftly dismissed both impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, branding them as “unconstitutional.”

The trial, centered on Republican criticism of Mayorkas’ immigration policies, concluded in just three hours with a party-line vote of 51-49 to reject the charges and adjourn.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell criticized the decision, calling it a dangerous precedent, while Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer defended it as necessary amid ongoing political disputes.

The impeachment articles, initially approved by House Republicans, were deemed baseless and politically motivated by Mayorkas and criticized by both Republicans and Democrats.

Despite Republican demands for a full trial, Democrats swiftly moved to dismiss the articles, leading to objections and failed motions from Republican senators, ABC News has reported.
