Former British senior diplomat Edward Chaplin waskidnapped in Iran in 1987, and relations between theUK and the Islamic Republic quickly deteriorated afterwards.
That kidnap followed claims by Iran that an Iranianconsulate worker in Manchester was assaulted by British police.
Mr Chaplin sat down with Newsnight's Joe Inwood andspoke publicly for the first time since he was seizedand assaulted by revolutionary guards almost fifty years ago.
