*Burn was told by Erus that Dannawthen had been sent to the Black Mountains by the Old One. For reasons Erus never cared to learn, Dannawthens only objective...for centuries...has been to kill any Witness he found while also either killing, maiming, or just plain harassing any Traveler so that they could never reach the Citadel. Halfway to the Black Mountains, however, Burn finds...to his shock...Kathryn Vello, a woman who also once reached the Citadel and decided not to stay but to instead become Witness and ferry Travelers through the Darkened Earth and across the Shine so more could see what a Witness has already found. It is Kathryn...known by Vello since only Burn ever called her Kathryn...who tells Burn every other Witness has been killed since he disappeared. In fact, Kathryn confesses she thought she was the last Witness until now and that she too is after Dannawthen since that monster slaughtered her last group of Travelers. She knows where, exactly, Dannawthen is hiding in the Black Mountains, and since Burn has been told, exactly, how to kill Dannawthen they join up...for at least a while [AI Art]*
