House Speaker Mike Johnson Says He's Not Resigning in News Conf

“I am not resigning,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to reporters after Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) told the speaker behind closed doors that he should resign. “And that is, in my view, an absurd notion that someone would bring a vacate motion, we are simply here trying to do our job.” Rep. Massie told the speaker and his colleagues he would sign onto a motion to vacate against Speaker Johnson. The speaker and his GOP leadership team held the news conference to highlight the weekly legislative agenda and their efforts to pass bills that would send aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan.
