Israel allies urge 'restraint' instead of reactionafter Iran drone attack | BBC News

The UK joined Israel's defence against Iran in order toprevent an escalation of the conflict, Lord Cameron has said.

UK RAF jets intercepted a small number of dronesbound for Israel in Iran's first ever direct attack on its territory.

The foreign secretary urged Israel to be "smart" and"tough" as it considers its response.

Lord Cameron added that the UK did not support aretaliatory strike, echoing US President Joe Biden'scomment that Israel should "take the win".

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres andGermany's foreign minister Annalena Baerbock havealso called for calm, while French President EmmanuelMacron said France would do everything possible toavoid what he described as a regional conflagration.
