Judas

Judas died in a field of blood
Bought with 30 pieces: no one says that he was good
Lived a life like other saints
Then stumbled at the final gate;
No Robin Hood
A traitor to the cause
Of all the holy wars?
Or just a patsy for the Lord?

Judas found his awful fame;
Never gonna be a popular name for boys
Bowed and prayed & and kissed a cheek
Groped blindly to his destiny:
Did he have a choice?
Did he ever even know
He wasn’t flesh and bone
But just a story being told?

Jesus rose as Judas fell:
I heard he has his very own ring of Hell
Just a pawn, a jigsaw piece
A stitch within the tapestry
That fits together perfectly
Each moment’s always been
Space and time and all within;
All endings waiting to begin

___

No-one here is without sin
Everybody here is suffering:
It’s what we do
This torture world’s where we all live
If you can you must forgive:
I don’t know how
I only know
I know it now

__

I’ve been loved and I’ve been used;
Been picked up, I’ve been refused
Been forsaken and abused
Friends I put my money on
I turned around and they were gone
They hate me now; they loved me once
We get to be it all
We get to rise, we get to fall
Then ride while others crawl

Me and him and Lucifer
Start out so well, end up so cursed
We’re not the best, we’re not the worst
And seen from far enough away
There is no sinner, is no saint
There is no particle, no wave
No blasphemy, no truth
No Christian, no Jew
No me, no you

___

Sometimes with grace the fog it lifts
I see the world for what it is:
A rhapsody
I heard a prophet say in song
That every heart to love must come
But as a refugee;
With no pride left
No plans
No schemes
No blasphemy, no truth
No Christian, no Jew
No me, no you
