Tow truck driver attempts to steal car (and occupants) at stop light

A viral video clearly demonstrates the lawlessness in San Francisco reaching near unbelievable levels after a renegade tow truck tried to steal a car. In broad daylight. Along with its occupants. While they were driving it. The yellow tow truck, marked ‘Specialty Towing,’ was filmed trying to back into a Toyota Corolla with his lever down while at a stop light, in an attempt to take the car, presumably to a secure lot where it could be released for a substantial fee (or at least, that’s the usual scam). Driver Harry, who was in the car with his partner Joanne, were able to evade capture thanks to the car behind them recognizing what was happening. Yes, apparently this is now so commonplace on the streets of San Francisco that drivers are familiar with it.

The company behind the bizarre car-and-occupant-jacking is likely, although not confirmed to be, Specialty Towing and Recovery, who along with affiliated companies are reportedly behind a string of illegal towings and other fraudulent activities. Police have said they are investigating the incident.
