A little boy was saved from serious injury at a hockey game last Thursday when a quick-thinking man jumped in front of him to intercept a wayward puck heading into the crowd.
The puck flew off the ice during a Cleveland Monsters game, heading straight for the 4-year-old Nasir Davis. In a shared video of the incident, Nasir’s mom is heard screaming, ‘Oh my God!’ as the puck flies towards them. Without hesitating, 28-year-old Andrew Podolak leaps in front to shield the boy. It was such a close call that Nasir’s mom later recalls how her son had ice chips from the rink in his hair.

Reconnecting with Podolak later, Nasir’s mom told him, ‘You’re a really special person and I just hope that you never go a day in your life without knowing that.’

The three were invited back to another Cleveland Monsters game, where Nasir had the (now possibly unwanted, given his recent experience) honor of dropping the puck to start the game.
