This old mansion has a long history . A story that is not pleasant . In 1890 Nikolaos Kontos ordered the famous designer Evaristo de Chirico to build a mansion so that he and his family could enjoy living near the sea . He knew very little of what fate had in store for him . On April 10, 1869, thousands of people bid farewell to the three children of Nikolaos Kontos . In cemetery N. Ionia Volos said goodbye to the third of his children Katina while almost a year earlier he had lost Helen and Constantine . Even before the family could live in their new home it had been wiped out . Because of the social shame of that time, it should not be known that the members of the family died of tuberculosis, so the story was created that the three children were poisoned by a lizard that fell into their milk and as a result they were poisoned and led to their death . For this reason the family tomb was turned into a monument a work of art a dining room with three chairs each bearing the name of each of the feet that died . On one of the legs of the dining room is carved a shamamid as a reminder that the children of the family died from it . From this point onwards the Kontos mansion is accompanied by a legend that it was haunted by the death of the children and remained the legend that they had been poisoned by samiamidi also the idea was born that the children were poisoned by a maid whom relatives had paid to inherit the House . The house in the 1920s was sold to Georgios Alpakis and later in 1941 it was occupied by the Germans and used by the pro-German National Agrarian Congress anti-communist action .it is rumored that during this period even executions took place in the basement of the building. The use of the building after this period was primarily to house rebel families but also families affected by the devastating earthquake of 1955 . In 1960 the House passed to the property of the contractor named Koutsidakis who in the effort to restore it used poor materials thus destroying its magnificent frescoes . A few years later the contractor fell ill and died so later in 1985 it was declared as a preserve by Melina Mercouri . Today the mansion still stands in ruins looted holding in its bowels a long history and deep hidden secrets prey to every visitor constituting a dangerous death trap as it is ready to collapse .
