While hiking in Yosemite National Park, California resident Mikey Wright witnessed a large avalanche from a distance.

Wright, an experienced hiker in the park, described the avalanche as sounding like a bomb going off, originating from a subdome near Half Dome.

He estimated the avalanche to be about a quarter-mile away and noted a 300-foot-wide section of ice breaking off.

The event, captured on video and shared online, prompted warnings about the dangers of snowmelt causing avalanches and hazardous conditions near waterfalls in the park, the San Francisco Gate has reported.
