This week we celebrate the life of Gertrude Allison as she turns 104 years old. Gertrude was born during the roaring 20s. She was born in Montgomery Alabama. At the age of 3 her family moved to Detroit. She has lived through the Great Depression, WWII, The Civil Rights Movement and all the major historical events in our modern day history.

During World War II, Gertrude’s fiancé Hugh was stationed at Perl Harbor when the harbor was bombed. Hugh was stationed on the US Utah. Gertrude and her family were worried sick waiting to hear if her fiancé was still alive. It took one month before she got word that he was still alive. Can you imagine what it must have been like, having to wait an entire month just to find out if her love was still alive? They eventually eloped and got married and remained married for 71 years.

She suffered the loss of a child. Her son passed away at 37 from pneumonia. Gertrude’s loss didn’t end with her son. Gertrude also lost her granddaughter which was very shocking to the family.

Gertrude loves to sing. She spent many years singing in the Dennard Brazeal Chorale. The choir main goal was to keep the spiritaul songs alive.

She was a charter member of her church’s credit union. She moved to Arizona in 2014

Date of birth 04/18/1920
