Section 107 of the Copyright Act of 1976, also known as the Fair Use Act, allows for the limited use of copyrighted material without the need for permission from the rights holders. This use is called "fair use" and is permitted by copyright statute, even if it might otherwise be infringing. Fair use includes: criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, research, and reproduction in copies or phonorecords.
