Pedestrian Fatally Hit on Freeway

On 4/13/24 at approximately 9:20 PM, California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a crash on I-8 westbound just before 2nd Street in El Cajon. Upon their arrival, they found a black Mazda had hit a pedestrian in the middle lane. The person was unfortunately pronounced deceased on scene. The driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with officers. Traffic was diverted to the Greenfield exit until the freeway was reopened at approximately 11:40 PM. Unknown if DUI was a factor in this incident.
