Tanna Island ceremonial kava procession

During my 2017 stay, I was given the honor of carrying the kava plant to lead the procession of the ceremony, when the young boys are reunited with their mothers. There are piles of gifts for each family who had a son in the ceremony, including the mats, sugarcane, taro, and of course the pigs - which are dispatched during the procession in a manner that many might find unbecoming - and will be part of the feasts afterward.
