JoJo Siwa's rebrand must be stopped (Karma music video reaction)
Joelle Joanie Siwa (born May 19, 2003) is an American singer, dancer, actress and internet personality, mainly known under her professional pseudonym 'JoJo Siwa,' a successful brand which has accumulated over 20 million followers across Instagram and YouTube alone.
From 2015 to 2016, she appeared as a dancer on two seasons of the reality television show Dance Moms alongside her mother, Jessalynn Siwa, following a top-5 finish in the show's spinoff 'Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition,' starring Abby Lee Miller.
In 2017, Siwa signed to Nickelodeon and acted in various shows and films, such as 'Blurt' with Henry Danger lead actor Jace Norman. Under Nickelodeon, she additionally released several children’s songs - such as the song Boomerang, which discussed bullying and recieved over 900 million views on YouTube - and her own feature film, The J Team. She was included on Time Magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2020.
On April 5, 2024, Columbia Records - a label of Sony Music Entertainment - officially released JoJo Siwa''s single 'Karma,' which was promoted as a major shift from the family-friendly image that Siwa had obtained throughout her Nickelodeon and social media career. JoJo has claimed in several interviews that she was heavily inspired by Miley Cyrus and her controversial 'Bangerz' album in 2013, which included pop hits such as 'Wrecking Ball' - which was interesting considering Cyrus had initially rejected the song in 2011, midway through her Disney contract. However, the song was poorly received by both online audiences, such as YouTuber kayla says, and professional critics; PinkNews described it as a "jarring rebrand."
In this video, we discuss this new tryhard music video, as well as discuss the recent allegations made in the Rolling Stone magazine concerning treatment of her XOMG Pop! dancers within the filming of the 2021 Peacock streaming show 'Siwas Dance Pop Revolution.'
