My Dad used to say in my day we didn’t have days. Help me understand.

It was a standard Dad quote growing up, “Back in my day we didn’t have days. He had hours and they were long and they were hard but we appreciated the work.”

I have to admit, I didn’t understand as a kid but now that I’m an adult with my own kids… I still don’t understand.
