Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has signed a memorandum on the development of innovative UA Drone ID technology in the DELTA system, which will help identify drones on the “friend or foe” principle.
According to Espresso media outlet, this was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
“This solution is unique in terms of both development and civil-military cooperation for innovation. We are working to ensure that the DELTA product ecosystem fully meets the needs of the military. The integrated technology will help minimize friendly fire, preserve more of our drones and analyze the use of drones,” commented Kateryna Chernohorenko, Deputy Defense Minister for Digital Transformation, Digital Development and Digitalization.
The technology has already been tested in combat with attack drones. The Ministry of Defence noted that the use of UA DroneID enables the safety and effectiveness of missions, provides situational awareness on the battlefield during missions. In the future, the technology in the DELTA system will also offer many opportunities for analyzing the use of drones, for example, planning which ones are best used to hit certain targets.
“Ukraine is the first country to face robotic warfare. Continuous technological development will help increase the efficiency of drones and remove humans from the battlefield,” the official summarized.
The team of the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry presented the DELTA ecosystem of situational awareness products in October last year. DELTA is a unique ecosystem of military products built to NATO standards. It helps to see the battlefield in real-time and displays the air, ground, and sea situation on a digital map. The system also includes a messenger and streaming, which make it possible to communicate in a secure circuit and see the broadcast from a UAV in real time. The system can be used to exchange information within a unit, brigade, and, if necessary, with allies.
