Cyclist Killed in Crash Involving Patrol Car
ne person was killed in a crash involving a Lee County Sheriff's Office patrol car, Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Estero parkway. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Steven Mammarella, was raveling crossing US-41 while a deputy was nearing a green light. The deputy, identified as 29-year-old Tyler Davolt stuck the bicyclist. Mammarella was transported to the Gulf Coast Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP. Witnesses told investigators that they saw a white van in the area of the crash with sparks coming from the bottom of the van after the incident took place. It is under investigation if the van struck the bicyclist or debris, according to FHP.
