Hamas has admitted its inability to locate and identify 40 Israeli hostages necessary for the initial phase of a ceasefire deal, according to both an Israeli official and a source familiar with the negotiations. This development raises concerns that the number of hostages deceased may exceed what is publicly known.

As outlined by negotiators, the agreement stipulates that during a six-week ceasefire period, Hamas should release 40 hostages, including women, as well as sick and elderly men. In exchange, Israel would release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
