The Clark County School District said in an email that its police department is "looking into rumors and the school was placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. Students are safe in their classroom."

As of 11:30 a.m., the school was placed on a soft lockdown and police did not find a weapon.

Principal Colin McNaught told families in a message that CCSD Police were conducting an investigation, and more updates would be provided once there's more information.

Cimarron-Memorial High School is located near Buffalo Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard in the west valley.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said they were assisting but referred further questions to the school district's police department.

A lockdown at a Las Vegas-area high school has been lifted after reports of a weapon on campus were unfounded.

According to Clark County School District, the school was placed under lockdown out of an abundance of caution while police investigate “rumors.” A CCSD spokesperson said it was rumored that there was a weapon on campus, but no weapon was found.

A CCSD spokesperson said class would resume as normal for the rest of the day.

This is an update from Cimarron-Memorial High School Principal Colin McNaught regarding the lockdown.

CCSD Police have moved us to a soft lockdown after investigating a rumor of a weapon on campus.

Police investigated and no weapon was located. There were no threats to the school or students.

As soon as the soft lockdown is lifted by CCSD Police, I will communicate the plan for the remainder of the school day.

Please take this opportunity to discuss school safety with your student. If they ever face a situation where they are unsure whether or not to share information with an adult, please remind them to never hesitate to report anything that may be a safety issue.
