Valaam is the name of an island and archipelago located in Lake Ladoga, near the 🇷🇺-🇫🇮 border.

It's difficult to get there. During the off-season, the island remains isolated from the rest of the world for some time.

🔻The peace and solitude of the island attracted monks and hermits for many centuries. At the end of the 11th century, beginning of the 12th century, the Valaam Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior was founded on the island, which still operates today, despite many attacks from Scandinavian peoples throughout its history.
