Montgomery County, Texas — On March 11, 2024, at approximately 8:09 p.m., Houston Police officers were assisting a multi-jurisdictional task force surveying a black SUV. The vehicle was suspected of being used in multiple armed robberies across multiple counties. Officers observed the driver of that vehicle, 44-year-old Roosevelt Jamie Overton, Jr., commit an aggravated robbery at a liquor store at 26834 North Freeway.

As Overton attempted to leave the scene in the black SUV, officers used their vehicles to block his, preventing him from driving away. Overton exited the SUV and officers gave him commands to show his hands. Overton fled on foot with a gun in his hand. Officers pursued him, giving Overton commands to stop and drop his weapon. He did not comply. Overton ran into a bayou tributary, still refusing to drop his gun. Officers from multiple agencies discharged their duty weapons, striking Overton. Officers provided first aid, but Overton was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured.
