Male seahorses have a stomach pouch. When mating, female seahorses lay up to 1500 eggs into the pouch. The fertilization process occurs internally. The inner lining of the stomach pouch is filled with blood vessels, then the male seahorse fertilizes the eggs into embryos.

Male seahorses carry eggs for 9-45 days, until the embryos develop into baby seahorses which are still very small. Then, the babies are born in the water. You can see in the video how male seahorses seem to spray hundreds of babies out of their stomach pouch. The average number of babies born is between 100 and 1000.
After giving birth, the male seahorse's role is complete. In fact, seahorses often mate again within a few hours or days during the mating season.
