Spacebilt and Phison have announced an agreement to qualify a high-performance data server for deployment on the International Space Station (ISS).

Set to launch in 2025, the Large in Space Server (LiSS) will boast over 100 terabytes of data storage, making it the most powerful data server in orbit.

The LiSS will undergo six months of qualification testing on an external platform of the Japanese Kibo module.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology including Microchip Technology’s Polarfire FPGA, an Nvidia Jetson computer, and a Phison X1 solid-state drive, LiSS aims to advance space-based computing capabilities.

This mission serves as a crucial step towards deploying petabyte-level server systems in space, Space News has reported.
