The AR-152 is perfect for emergency communications because it is UNlocked, meaning that it can transmit on ham radio frequencies, GMRS, MURS, and many other frequency ranges. The large buttons and easy-to-read screen also make this a good choice for preppers or anyone that wants a emergency radio that works outdoors and in bright sunlight. Of course, because this is a ham radio the FCC says that you must have an amateur radio license (ham radio license) to transmit on the AR152 radio, but no license is required to purchase, own, posess or or listen to the Baofeng AR-152 or any other ham radio.
