My Nonna had a bunch of old home movie reels -- dating back to the late 1940s through the mid-1960s. It was a little scary to send these away to get digitized (especially after some of the reviews I read & videos I watched), but after my exhausting search to find a reel to reel player online for silent films, I caved to the fact that sending them to a professional would be the best option for me.
They had been sitting in a climate controlled environment, so that was good. Problem is, they probably haven't been played in decades and I felt they were already going to be fragile, so sending them through an old reel player would have been risky and didn't want to risk damaging the original product.
The turn-around time was pretty awesome -- 2-3 weeks I believe, the website said 4-6 weeks but I'm assuming that's at busy peak times like Christmas. All in all my experience was good.
