Eisenhower's "New Look" foreign policy, "brinksmanship", the Eisenhower Doctrine, McCarthyism...all necessary to fan the flames of the Red Scare - necessary to feed the beast he himself helped create. Eisenhower's famous Farewell Address warned Americans of a "military-industrial" complex, leaving out the most important participant in this golden triangle - the politicians that turn on the money spigot with their votes. Proof that the public sector had learned its Ultra Vires lesson from the private sector well: Maximize profits in spite of the public interest and/or moral implications and immunize yourself from any liability. Proof also that Eisenhower's warning was disingenuous at best. Pity the poor fool that ever tries to tame this tiger. There are about 50-60 people who care very much about profitability and very little about morality who are keeping score. These people used to be positioned exclusively in the private sector. However, these Power Elites now have some of their key people ensconced in the highest public offices in Washington. They are buttons waiting to be pushed.
