Dude Uses Decoy Package To Bust Porch Pirate In New York City
Security camera footage has captured the moment a suspected porch pirate fell into a trap set by a Queens homeowner, attempting to steal a fake parcel deliberately left on the stoop. Carlos Mejia, frustrated by repeated thefts of packages from FedEx and UPS trucks, decided to take matters into his own hands. Last week, he strategically placed "decoy packages" outside his door, hoping to catch one of the thieves red-handed. "I was just trying to set an example for those out there doing the same thing … stealing from others," Mejia explained to Storyful. The video from Mejia's home security system, which has garnered viral attention on TikTok with over 800,000 views, shows a man entering his yard on Saturday. The individual approaches the front steps, seizes a box, and attempts to conceal it in his backpack. In a swift and assertive response, a visibly enraged Mejia emerges from his house wielding a baseball bat, ready to confront the would-be thief.
