About This Artifact:
(Post from Original Uploader):
"This was what was called a filmstrip. A continuous roll of images. It was originally projected onto a film screen using a filmstrip projector. These were modern tools for schools in the states in the 70's. The sound would have been on an LP or Tape Cassette or Reel to reel tape. In this case, I believe it was available on LP and Tape Cassette. The beeps on the audio track are used to tell the operator it is time to move to the next image. The focus screen is used to calibrate your lens (since projection throw is subject to distance from the screen) before beginning the program. I used my iphone, a modified picture frame and a tabletop tripod to capture each frame with the macro lens. The images were imported into photoshop and trimmed and aligned. Then I produced the screen frame overlay to simulate the look and feel of the filmstrip movement one would expect back in the day. Next I put all the pieces into a video editor and added the transition movement at the beeps and mastered an mp3 at 1920x1080. I have an entire play list of these types of programs dating back to the early sixties produced by various public interest groups who were concerned with the growth of government globally and other social ills. I takes an hour or two to capture the images and several hours to process the pieces. Video rendering is typically done while I sleep but there's probably 20 hours or so in each preservation."
