When Freyja/Reiya begged Odin to let Loki return, Odin turned her into a child, erased her memories, and sent her to the mortal world. Reiya becomes Freyja when the necklace Brisingamen is put around her neck, and reverts back when it is removed, with no memory of what happened. Reiya is also capable of transforming when extremely jealous or threatened, and in other circumstances.
