How people survive in the far north of Russia
This film was shot in the Yamal tundra, 100 km from the capital of the Far North, Salekhard.
Nenets nomads live here. These are the little people of Russia. About 43,000 of them remain. They live from reindeer herding. Thanks to the deer, they have food, shelter, clothing and transportation.
They live in cone-shaped dwellings called chums. It is collected from poles and deer skins. In the middle of the dwelling there is a fireplace that is used to prepare food and heat the tent.
