1. Familiarise yourself with accents: During the IELTS listening test, audio clips with accents ranging from North American to British are used. So it would be wise to practice with all these accents to improve your familiarity with different varieties of accents. You can practice by listening to podcasts and videos.

2. Read the directions carefully: You should read the directions given on the IELTS exam question paper carefully and follow them accordingly. In the reading and listening section, if it is instructed that your answers should not be more than 3 words, then it should not be more than 3 words. When it comes to the writing section, if your answer doesn’t meet the word count limit you could lose your marks. Make sure your answer never goes below the word limit even if it exceeds it.

3. Do a lot of practice tests: Doing practice tests regularly can help you have a better understanding of the IELTS exam pattern and help you improve your time management skills. You can also get a good idea about your strengths and weaknesses and thereby improve your overall performance.

4. Develop a proper strategy: By having a clear understanding of the exam pattern, you can develop and follow various time-saving techniques that could help you answer the questions efficiently. Having a clear strategy can help you achieve your desired score effortlessly.

5. Write like a native English speaker: Read a lot of written works ranging from journals and newspapers to short stories and novels to improve your overall vocabulary. This can help improve the quality of the essays you write. There are four areas where you should focus on to score better in the writing test of the IELTS exam- the structure of your essay, vocabulary, coherence(connecting the paragraphs of your essay) and accuracy(grammar, spelling and punctuation).

6. Find a study partner: Having a study partner with a good knowledge of English can be very advantageous for you when you are preparing for your IELTS test. This way you can get continuous feedback on the progress you are making and improve the efficiency of your IELTS exam preparation.
