For the First Time, More People in Southeast Asia Favor an Alignment with China Over the US

04/02/2024 CNA: According to a new report on the state of the region by Singapore think tank ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute, If forced to choose sides, China edges out the US as Southeast Asia's preferred superpower. The report said better trade and investment relations may be a driving force behind this shift. However, distrust in China has also ticked higher. Over half the respondents have little to no confidence in Beijing to contribute to global peace, security, prosperity and governance.
